The DFAS stands for Decorative and Fine Arts Society. Pewsey Vale is part of The National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies (NADFAS) which has branches all over the country and many abroad.
It seeks to promote the study and wider knowledge of all types of art through meetings, visits, study days and volunteering. Within the limit of 275 members, anyone is welcome to join. Once that limit has been reached applicants gbo on a waiting list. Click here for more details of how to become a member.
The subscription entitles the member to attend, without charge, the programme of ten talks held monthly, except for July and August, in the Bouverie Hall, Pewsey, starting at 7:15 pm. Click here for details of the lecture programme from November 2011 to February 2013.
In addition to the lectures, the Society arranges a programme of visits to properties of interest throughout the UK. In 2012 there will be five trips starting and returning to Pewsey within the day; and one five day tour to Devon and Cornwall in May. Members pay for these on an estimated costs basis. Click here for details of the programme.
In March and October the Society also arranges Study Days for members to look at a particular subject in greater depth. A lecturer gives talks both in the morning and the afternoon, and there are opportunities for member participation. A light lunch is normally provided. Again, members pay these on a cost plus basis. Click here for more details.
Any surplus funds help to finance the Church Recording Programme or Young Arts projects helping school children in the world of Art. These are arranged by volunteers from within the Society, and form the Society's contribution to parallel schemes across the country. Click here to learn more.
Finally, for those members wishing to take a more active, practical role, there is the Heritage Volunteer scheme presently helping with the conservation of fabrics at The Merchant’s House in Marlborough. Click here for more details.
